“Yeah, it would be special,” says Craig, who is currently second in the standings. “It means a lot, but I am taking it race by race. We still have a lot to go.”
“It’s cool to be in this position, like fighting for a championship. But, you know, we can talk about that after South Africa. I just have to put myself in a good position each main event, execute it, and let it play out. So I’m excited.”
Savatgy, who was third in last year’s championship, is also mindful that there are still two rounds remaining and 90 points up for grabs.
“There are still six more races before we get there,” says Savatgy. “Obviously, we’ll have a better gauge after this weekend. There are still six more motos, and anything can happen.”
“[Being called a world champion] has got a nice ring to it. I wouldn’t be mad at having that title. But as far as thinking about it, it’s just too far away.”
For Anderson, he’s just having fun on his Suzuki for Pipes Motorsport Group, and a title would be an added bonus.
He said: “For me, I’m just trying to have fun. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.
“At the end of the day, it would be cool to add it to a list of some things I have done. But at the same time, I’m just trying to go and win a couple of races and then keep the work going.”
While Craig enjoyed his time on the Gold Coast in Round 3, Anderson left Australia with work to do and spent two days this week riding to resolve the problems.
“The bike’s been awesome since day one,” said Craig. “I’m enjoying it. Everyone around me is in good moods, and everyone’s positive. It’s just been a good situation all around, so I’m happy with my riding, myself, and just what I’ve been doing. It’s been exciting.”
Anderson added: “I flew back from Australia on Sunday, and then we obviously had a little bit of an issue. I rode Monday and Tuesday in Florida, so I’ve been testing stuff, trying to figure out how to avoid what happened in that third race.
“We were out there until 5 p.m., so it’s been a long couple of days. When I got here to Sweden on Thursday, I definitely slept all day!”
