The FIM Confirm the 2026 World Supercross Championship Regulations

Every World Supercross event features two classes. SX1, with motorcycles up to 450cc, while SX2 showcases bikes up to 250cc. Riders compete for points at every round, with those points deciding the World Championship over the course of the season.

The race day begins with practice sessions, giving riders time to learn the track and fine-tune their bikes. The fastest riders then progress to Superpole, where they each get a single flying lap to fight for the quickest time.

Riders with the quickest time get to select their place in the starting gate. Starting position matters because the run to the first corner is short, making a good gate pick a major advantage.

Unlike many forms of motorcycle racing, World Supercross doesn’t crown the winner after just one race. Instead, riders compete across three races. Each event consists of two sprint races and one main event.

Each race awards Championship points, and the rider who scores the most points across all three is declared the overall event winner. This format rewards consistency just as much as outright speed, meaning one mistake doesn’t necessarily ruin a rider’s evening.

Every point matters. As the Championship progresses, riders build their title challenge one race at a time, making every pass, every start and every finish significant.
