World Supercross Race Format Explained
Two different bike categories competing for their own championship. The SX2 class has a 250cc power limit while the SX1 class packs a bigger punch with a 450cc limit.
Practice:
A short, sharp practice session will give the teams and riders a limited window to learn the nuances of the track and tune the bike accordingly.
Qualifying:
Time to open the throttle and lay down some lap times within a 10 minute period. The faster your time, the better your gate selection in the race.
The fastest four riders from Qualifying will compete in a one-lap shoot-out to claim pole position and the top four gate pick ranking heading into the race. This has the ability to shake things up!
Three races per class. Two sprint races of 8 laps each before a longer, 12 lap main race. Points are up for grabs depending on finishing position in each race. Points are awarded for the top 10 positions in a sprint race compared to the top 20 positions for the main race.
Throughout the season, points will be tallied up to crown an overall SX1 Champion, SX2 Champion, and the combined Team Champion.
